Called by Name

Image
Earth Day   Mary [of Magdala] stood weeping outside the tomb…. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni,” which means Teacher. —John 20:11, 15–16  In her homily at the 2019 CAC Universal Christ conference, Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis reminds us that we are each called by the resurrected Christ who knows us by name:    Mary is the first preacher in the gospel … not because she recognizes Jesus, but because he knows her, and what she can do, and what she’s got to give. Amen. In the moment of speaking and seeing, in the moment of revelation and connection, there is a passing on, an apostolic succession, that goes to this woman on the outside of her society, who has no status, no stature, except that Jesus sees  her , an...

I will make the wilderness a pool of water

Adapted from Lectio 365 by Hannah Heather 'I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys. I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. '   Isaiah 41:18 'Every tree, spring, and pool in the wilderness is a testimony. A signpost that everyone may see and know the miraculous God of wilderness water. Every time I encounter living water in the wilderness, it is a testimony. The landscape of my life becomes a signpost that others may see and know the miraculous God of wilderness water.' by Hannah Heather from Lectio 365 The beauty of new creation, as we see signs of spring, is like a pool of water in the wilderness of what is happening in the world at the moment.  We are part of God's creation, and simply by being ourselves, we are part of God's creation jigsaw, witnessing to His presence. The blue sky bathing the forest Rusty, an enthusiast for God's creation, and a great encouragement to ...

Stop Striving

Image
By Lisa Dishman I see myself on a raft on a river with a lush river bank of nature. Surrendered to God. Enjoy it. Stop striving. I’ll wash up on a river bank from time to time and be reunited with others who were also floating along. Or I’ll reach a slow patch occasionally and chat to others. But the river goes on. Maybe there is fruit on an over hanging branch I grab. May be I drink from the clear water. It all leads to the eternal city in the presence of God, whatever that means to you. If I serve it should flow naturally out of me. Opportunity will come and it will be almost without stress because it’s a natural flow.
